| .Bio Dynamic Farming and Gardening Association |
The following are products and services available to the Association members. Some are also sold to non-members. Magazine: Harvests The Association's magazine Harvests covers different aspects of biodynamics in New Zealand in its quarterly schedule. It offers home gardener and professional farmer alike a valuable forum for sharing problems, solutions and insights both practical and conceptual, related to the work. Field Days and Seminars Regular field days and seminars are held in different parts of New Zealand, enabling those interested to come together for talks, discussions and practical activities. These are arranged by local groups and may engage the services of specialists for lectures and practical demonstrations. Overseas specialists are sometimes available as guest speakers. The Hawke's Bay Education Group also runs seminars and a full time five month diploma course through Taruna College, PO Box 8103, Havelock North, ph. 06 877 7174, fax 06 877 7014. Biodynamic Calendar A comprehensive farming and gardening calendar, containing broad explanation for its use, is provided free to members or can be bought from the Association office by non-members. Biodynamic Preparations An essential element of biodynamic practice is the use of special plant, animal, mineral preparations. These are made by the Association and supplied to members at a reasonable price. Lending Library A small postal lending library is available, containing a range of publications relating to various facets of biodynamics and sustainable agriculture, horticulture and forestry. New Books Grasp the Nettle by Peter Proctor - provides a basic guide to biodynamic farming, including details of how to make and use the biodynamic preparations. Biodynamic Perspectives - an anthology of articles by members of the Association on practical and philosphical topics (Published 2001) Demeter Certification Demeter is an internationally recognised certification trademark, indicating that the produce carrying this mark has been grown to the highest possible standards using biodynamic methods. Full Demeter certification, renewable annually, can be applied for after three years of biodynamic practice. Advisory Service Advisors are available for farm visits and input at local field days and seminars. Fees are kept to the minimum necessary to cover costs. All members working toward Demeter Certification require an annual advisory or inspection visit, according to the stage they have reached. Other visits are made by arrangement with the Association office.
